After all of the fun we had with the move, I thought it would be a good time to give a tour of the new facility and show you why it was all worthwhile in the long run!
The first question to answer is why we wanted to move in the first place. Our old location was in an industrial park that was 30 minutes from the local GA airport. When a customer would drop in to visit, they expected to see an airplane and not just parts. We ended up driving back and forth to the airport more times than I care to count. In addition, while the location was great for suppliers, it apparently was also an excellent place for thieves. We were broken into twice and our computers and printers stolen. Plus if you left anything outside for more than 5 minutes it would disappear (as our compressor did when we put it outside to be loaded into the moving truck). Finally, we just needed more space!
So, the decision was made to move out to the Brampton Airport.
It all started with a request for rezoning on the Brampton Airport. Originally this land was zoned for residential with the hopes that an airpark would be developed, but this never came to be. In Dec of 2009 we started the rezoning process. What I thought would be a quick and simple process ended up taking more than a year.
We are headed to AirVenture 2011 in Oshkosh, WI for the week of July 25th to the 31st. FFP is displaying in booth 638 in the Northern Display Area. Please drop by and see us!
BTW, the officed will be closed during this time, but we check both messages and emails each night.
We Have Moved!
We have finally moved to our new factory and are in the process of getting set up. I totally under-estimated the scope of the move. It took 5 full days to move all of the machinery, jigging, parts and tooling to the new location. We are now located on the Brampton Airport (CNC3) in Caledon Ontario and we are the anchor tenant in the airports new industrial park. Unpacking is almost done and the equipment is pretty much in place. I will post picture of the move later when I can. A hacker got into our website and decide to mess around with the photo directory so we are not able to post new photos at this time. The website programmer will fix it within a week.
So, the move was longer than expected and had a few unanticipated challenges. We are in the new building but we do not have phone or internet access at this point. It is active but the offices are not yet done. That should be fixed by Monday of next week. If you call the office (new number 905-838-1050), leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can. In addition we are in a holding pattern in the factory as we are a few days away from final electrical inspection and approve. We also have no gas and new ceptic hookup! Sound horrible, but it will all be fixed in the next couple of weeks and it is great to be in our new building.
Thanks to all of you who have patiently put up with our slow customer response during this move. We promise NEVER to move again (if we can help it)!
Please note the new mailing and factory address listed in the previous update or in the Contact Us section.
Our phone number has changed to 905-838-1050
The FFP Gang
I thought I would give everyone an update on our pending move to our new building.....yes we are moving! We are moving July 1st to a brand new building at the Brampton Airport in Cheltenham, Ontario. It is about 20 minutes west of our current location. The new building will allow us to have a larger production facility, optimized facility layout, and best of all it will let us have room for training seminars.
The building is totally enclosed with work on the inside coming along nicely.
As of July 1st our address will change to:
Fisher Flying Products Inc
Fisher Flying Products Inc
13779 McLaughlin Road
PO Box 68
If you want to follow along on the progress of the building, we post pictures regularly to our Twitter account @fisherflying
